This volume presents the contributions of the conference held in Rome at the Museo Laboratorio Arte Contemporanea (MLAC) at Sapienza University in April 2022. There international scholars and experts in the field of graffiti writing as well as renowned writers from Rome and Milan came together for intense discussion and exchange. Texts and images present current research and answer to the question of style between the two apparently distant but somehow interconnected fields of art history and graffiti writing.
EGIDIO EMILIANO BIANCO studied art history, art and culture management in Milan. He is currently a PhD candidate at KU Linz, with a thesis on graffiti writing in Rome. His passion for and specialization in urban arts has led to a wide range of activities, including contributions to magazines, books, conferences, and exhibitions, as well as his current work for the auction platform Catawiki.
ILARIA HOPPE is Professor for Art History and Visual Culture at KU Linz. Previously, she worked at Humboldt University in Berlin. There she began with her research on street art and graffiti, starting with the very first academic seminar on the topic in 2007.
Questo volume presenta i contributi del convegno tenutosi a Roma presso il Museo Laboratorio Arte Contemporanea (MLAC) dell’Università La Sapienza nell’aprile 2022. Qui si sono riuniti studiosi ed esperti internazionali nel campo del graffiti writing oltre a noti writer romani e milanesi per intense discussioni e scambi. Testi e immagini presentano la ricerca odierna e rispondono alla questione dello stile tra i due campi apparentemente distanti ma in qualche modo interconnessi della storia dell’arte e del graffiti writing.
EGIDIO EMILIANO BIANCO ha studiato storia dell’arte, arte e management della cultura a Milano. Attualmente è dottorando alla KU Linz, con una tesi sul writing a Roma. La sua passione e specializzazione per le arti urbane ha portato a una vasta gamma di attività, tra cui contributi a riviste, libri, conferenze e mostre, così come il suo attuale lavoro per la piattaforma di aste Catawiki.
ILARIA HOPPE è professoressa di storia dell’arte e cultura visiva alla KU Linz. In precedenza, ha lavorato presso la Humboldt University di Berlino. Lì ha iniziato la sua ricerca sulla street art e sui graffiti, a partire dal primissimo seminario accademico sull’argomento nel 2007.
